What is Tandoor and how it Works: Tandoor is an oval shaped clay oven fueled with charcoal. The heat from charcoal is absorbed by the walls of the Tandoor (oven). The faster the charcoal burns, faster the heat is absorbed. The carbon from the initial fire starts to burn off at 650º F. and the surface becomes 'white hot'. Eventually the temperature rises up to 900º F.
